Yes — BECAWU (Bahamas Educators, Counsellors & Allied Workers Union) is a recognized union in The Bahamas. It was established in October, 2020.
BECAWU received official Registration from the Registrar of Trade Unions, Mr. John Pinder on October 21, 2021.
On April 1, 2022, BECAWU received Recognition as a Bargaining Agent. The government accepted BECAWU as a Bargaining Agent.
The union signed its first industrial agreement on August 5, 2022, which covers teachers, counsellors, and allied workers.
The Ministry of Education & Technical and Vocational Training includes the “Bahamas Educators, Counselors and Allied Workers Union (BECAWU)” among the unions recognized under its Industrial Agreements.
Any teacher, counsellor, or allied education worker employed in The Bahamas is eligible to become a member of BECAWU.
