Member Benefits

Welcome to the BECAWU member benefits page! We believe that our members are our greatest assets. As a member of BECAWU, you’ll gain access to a range of benefits, including strong representation, professional development opportunities, discounts, and financial savings. Explore our member benefits page to learn more about the advantages of being a BECAWU member.

Representation

Engaging in collective bargaining with the employer to create a comprehensive agreement that defines the terms and conditions of employment, including compensation, benefits, and workplace environment.

Representing members on health and safety issues, including participating in joint health and safety committees, conducting workplace inspections, and advocating for improved health and safety conditions.

Allowances

Post of Responsibility Allowances are awarded to those teachers in the public school system who carry out administrative functions in addition to performing regular classroom duties.

Post School Hours Allowance is an extension of the Post of Responsibility Allowance. It addresses the need for additional assistance outside of the regular school hours.

The post of responsibility and post school hour allowances have been increased, thanks to BECAWU’s successful negotiation efforts.

Medical Insurance

As part of its commitment to supporting the well-being of its members, BECAWU has negotiated a medical insurance plan, with BAF Financial & Insurance (Bahamas) Limited as our chosen insurance agent. This plan includes a range of benefits, such as vision and dental care, providing our members with a more extensive range of health benefits.

Pension Plan Savings

BECAWU contributes ten dollars ($10) monthly on behalf of each member to the Educators Pension Plan.

Members are also able to add their own monies by signing a separate salary deduction form. This account is called the Personal Pension Account.
